Louvre Visit

Part of one evening was spent at the Louvre, looking mostly at the large format pictures, like:
Liberty Leading the People

and

The Raft of the Medusa

We also paid a visit to Nike... or Winged Victory.

Then we went outside to see the lighting of the Pyramid for the 20th anniversary of it's creation. It was depressing. I'm not going to bother posting a video.

There's something about the heroic scale of large format art that I really appreciate... So much detail, so much WORK! How lovely... How inspiring...

And winged victory has always been one of my favorites... Why, oh why? Why do people destroy or deface things like this? And yet, there she is! Victorious and looking good - 2300 years later!

I think it's interesting that you put these three things together - all of them female, yet showing some of the (probably male assigned) varied aspects of the female role... Liberty (with her chest exposed but not an object of sexual appeal - a working woman), the Medusa (which we all know was a representation of the shipwreck, but the allusion is to the Medusa of Greek mythology and the havoc wreaked by fickle ships and women...), and finally Nike, victorious and beautiful. Did you do this on purpose or was it a "happy accident"? Interesting, none the less...
